A New Day, New Week and New Things to Share

Welcome to CANADA

Here comes another brand, new week and I have some things I wish to share with you.

First of all, I've been looking for great new books and found some to share with you, but they are not all free. Some are less than $1 for a 3 books set. When we pay little or nothing for something we seem to think they are worthless. (Whether it be things or people) But that is not the case. Often, you get the best books for free. The publisher/author is trying to get you hooked and then get you to pay for the following books. And, of course, we already know "the best things in life are free". So let's get started.

Christian/Inspirational ebooks from Amazon for download onto Kindle:

THE TEMPORARY BRIDE by Linda Ford FREE ebook Kindle

Christian Author, Joy Ohagwu. Great Ratings/Reviews. Each a 3-books Set for less than $2.

AFTERLIFE INSPIRATIONAL CHRISTIAN REDEMPTION by Joy Ohagwu Kindle

THE NEW RULE BOOK & PETE ZENDEL: CHRISTIAN SUSPENSE by Joy Ohagwu

Thriller/Suspense FREE ebook by KINDLE. (Not Christian but  "clean")
STRANGER IN THE WOODS by Anni Taylor

And if you didn't get a chance to read Werner Lind's short story,  "Laura's Choice" at the Master's Peace Theatre blog during the weekend, you still have the chance.

Also, upcoming this week on Master's Peace Theatre you will get a story by me and next weekend we'll have a short story direct from inside China. Elijah Zhai's letter, "Dear Lord", just won the Long Lost Letter Competition at Goodreads group, Adventure in Writing. So I grabbed it for us. And with all that's happening in China right now, this story couldn't be more timely.

Plus, come back here to my personal blog during the week because I have a few things to share with you, my online friends, that are right from my heart. (Wednesday, Feb. 26th would have been Mom's 79th Birthday).

Also, my cousin just died, so I'm asking you to keep my grieving family in your prayers as we once again say "Goodbye" to someone we loved so dearly. And thank Jesus for going to the cross and conquering death so we have the assurance of Eternal life.

Stop by and visit anytime. You are always welcome here.

Sincerely, Laura-Lee

An old photo of me younger. (2013). While I was being silly. Well. Silly-er. My "mustache" is a velvet bowtie I was wearing. I had just returned from a day at the Street Performers Festival. I had spoken of going every year for ten years, but when Mom died that March I knew I would get there no matter what.

God's Stuff, Good Stuff and Free Stuff

I don’t know if I can keep up with the pace the Lord is setting. I’m not physically moving that much, but He keeps requiring me to use my brain and I’m being daily freaked out and astonished by God’s presence and miracles. These things can be quite tiring.

I’ve been doing lots of writing this week. I thought I was writing in order to enter a Creative Writing competition at a Goodreads group, but when I finished the first one it was way too long. So I tried writing a different story. It ended up going outside the rules of the competition. And while I was trying to think of a third story to actually enter into the competition, a poem came shooting out of me.  You will be reading all of them at some point. I finally did managed to write a story that I entered into the competition and once the voting is over, I’ll be able to share that with you as well.

Also, you may remember that a couple weeks ago we had our first Guest Contributor at the Master’s Peace Theatre blog. I had posted my story, Broken Glass, that was in a competition and also posted, "Finding You" by Leyla K. C.. which was the other top story in the “History: You Were There” Competition. It ended up that my story, "Broken Glass" won over her story, Finding You. By one vote! But that seemed to me like a great enough victory to tease Leyla about. Until I discovered that she actually voted for me. Then I decided I had gloated enough. But I should mention that I have an eye on another one of her stories and she tells me that she has one that I haven’t seen yet that she is willing to let me post too.

From the initial wonderful reaction to her first story at Master’s Peace Theatre, I had an epiphany. I started thinking about the YA (Young Adult) genre. It has absolutely exploded and a good part of that is because not only young people are reading these books. Plus, it’s a catch all genre for all sorts of different types of stories. From romance and Coming of Age to Fantasy to Mysteries and on and on. Then I did some research and discovered that there weren’t that many blogs for Young Adults. And barely none at all for Young Adult Christians. Very few young people are into blogging and when they do have a blog it’s usually about gaming or in a diary/format. It’s mostly the older people (30 and above) who do the majority of blogging and when they do blog, it’s usually as a way to promote something that they are selling. For example, a blog about Bible Journalling will have a link for you to go and purchase journalling supplies.. So to have a blog that is strictly to post creative writing is not that common. And it seems like the Lord wants the Master’s Peace Theatre blog to be for readers of all ages. Which includes YA stories too. Thus we will continue to highlight other writers from all genres and all ages.
With that in mind, let me begin to get you pumped for next week’s Guest Contributor, author Werner Lind .

I came across Werner Lind several years ago when I was wondering if there was such a thing as a Vampire story written by a Christian. I searched high and low and found none. I suppose because it would be a marketing nightmare for a publisher. The Christians don’t want to read about vampires and the non-Christians don’t want to have a bunch of Bible in their vampire stories. But I kept hunting and behold I discovered the book "Lifeblood" and its author, Werner Lind. It is very much a vampire story. A fast paced, spooky and funny one with a bunch of Christians running around in it. ("Lifeblood"is currently on sale for $3.04 USD at Amazon Kindle if you want to take advantage of it's temporary low price?)
The story swept me up and I read it in a few hours during one sitting. I was so impressed with the story that I wrote a “fan” letter to it’s author. The good old fashioned way with paper and a pen. And Mr. Lind was kind enough to write back to me. And that is the last time I will refer to him as Mr. Lind in this post, because I am so honored to be able to count him as one of my closest and dearest friends. We have spent years corresponding to each other and I now consider Werner and his wife and entire family (who I refer to as the Lindettes) as part of my own family. With that in mind and a minimal amount of hinting and whining, Werner let me have his short story, "Laura's Choice" to post at the Master’s Peace Theatre blog. It will be posted there in the coming week, so you'll want to watch for that too.
(He didn’t actually name the story after me, but that doesn’t stop me from believing that he did.)

But for this week, you will be getting a story from me. So you can head over to the Master’s Peace Theatre blog now and read, "The Right Questions" and then next week I will post "Laura’s Choice". Then we can look forward to another story by Leyla K.C. in the near future and a few other things I have up my sleeve that I suspect are part of God's plan for the Master's Peace Theatre blog.

Right now I have another post on this blog which includes the poem, "This I Know" Poem and Family Day Post. (the one I mentioned near the top of this post). The post you are reading right now is all about all the various things you can enjoy and read, but I wanted to write something a bit more personal in honor of the Sabbath and because Monday, February 17th is “Family Day” in most provinces in Canada. Including my own province of Alberta.

But before I sign off from here, I have listed below links to ebooks for Kindle that I discovered are currently FREE on Amazon. So you need to go right now and download them. I have just downloaded them myself so I haven’t read them yet, but they are all Christian books and they all have an above 4 out of 5 star rating. This is my little treat for you having scrolled all the way down to the bottom of the post. (It may actually be better than a picture of MONTY, my cat. But don’t tell him I said that.)

I hope to be posting throughout this coming week. And if you want to keep track of what’s going on at my other blogs, it’s always a good idea to come here first. I consider “Laura-Lee Was Here” as my blog Home. This is the one that all the others revolve around. My personal place on the internet that you are always welcome at. Just as if you were a visitor in my real life home.

I hope you’ll bounce around with all the links and take advantage of the benefits and good stories. Please make yourself at home and help yourself to whatever I have. And I hope you’ll come back again for another visit. This is where I “keep it real”. That’s what we old folks used to say in the 70s when the hippies were running loose and inflicting paisley on an unsuspecting world. And usually orange paisley. They were hard times.

Hope the rest of your weekend is good and thanks for stopping by again. You are always welcome here.

"This I Know" I Wish You a HAPPY FAMILY DAY

WELCOME TO ALBERTA, EVERYONE!

Family Day Poem: "This I Know"
BY Laura-Lee Rahn

Most things fade, Our bodies too
Some remain because they’re true
Yet if I squander all my days
This I know, true love stays

Struck by pain, what can I do?
Questions loom. Answers few.
When times get rough, others flee
This I know, God loves me.

Monday, February 17th is
FAMILY DAY
in Alberta
(and most Canadian Provinces)

Time to spread it around the world. And the best way to do that is appreciate your family, wherever you are. You need it and they deserve it!

God's Doing Big Things for Little Ol' Me

Usually when an old year comes to an end, I face the coming one with a lot of trepidation and plain old fear. And as I remembered 2019 with all it’s sickness, paralysis, hospitals, pain and Death so close I could feel it’s evil breath on my face, I looked towards 2020 and couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed with … massive hope and excitement.

If you’re wondering what I did with the real Laura-Lee, it’s the exact same thing I wonder whenever I talk to the Lord or look in the mirror. The best answer I can give is I got zapped with the rushing wind of God’s Holy Spirit fire. And then the Scriptures started flowing into my brain and through my heart with fast fluidity. Jesus and I had a good talk on the night of December 31 and He said things to me He’s never said before and using a tone I’ve rarely heard from Him. Or maybe a tone I just didn’t want to hear. Because He basically said, “Hold on, Little girl. We are going for a ride!”
And, being the great woman of faith I am after 42 years of walking with the Lord, I instantly dismissed it as an overdose of cookies and hot chocolate and figured I’d be back down to feeling and acting “normal” in the morning. Except on the following morning of January 1, my devotional Bible reading was Hebrews 12.

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.”

And then the Lord worked out something between us that has been wrong all these years. No longer is He going to help me get through my life.

There’s something about facing death a lot (others and your own) that makes you know that each day really could be the last one you ever get on Earth. So if I’m near the end of my “race” I have to ask myself how and why I will be running those last steps. Then in just the few short seconds that it took for the answers to come, my life completely changed at the hands of Jesus for the second time. He’s the one with the Plan and I want to get in on whatever He is doing. It doesn’t sound like much of a different way of living, but it is completely different because I’ve realized I am His servant, He is not mine. And I can understand and echo what John the Baptist said. “He must become more; I must become less”.

I thought I should give you this prelude/prologue so that as you read this post and continue on with my blog through the months you’ll understand part of the reason why things are happening at this miraculous and speedy rate. And why I am no longer the person I was just mere months ago. Because the thing in my life that is changing the quickest and the most dramatically is  … me.

Praise you, Jesus.

So this blog post is to update you on what is going on right now and what is soon to come, as far as I’m aware of. So if you are going to be a witness to my last days on this earth, then you will have to do your own amount of holding on.

Just before Christmas I started reviewing books, but one thing I forgot to tell everyone is that it’s not just me telling you about a good book I happened to read. I’m doing it professionally. I get the books for free from the publisher or author because I have an “audience” and it is part of a marketing push. Meaning you get the book at a hugely discounted rate. Some books will go as low as $1 or even for free on occasion. At the very least 50% off. So if you see me talk about a book that you think is interesting, that’s the time to go for it.

As well as spending my time reviewing books, I have also stumbled onto a group of Christian young people (in their teens and twenties mostly) that are extremely creative and talented. We all belong to the same 4 groups that focus on writing stories, songs, blurbs, book titles and whatever we can imagine. And one group is dedicated solely to illustrating. Each week there are various contests and creative challenges. We submit our entries and then the members vote on who is the winner. The reason I bring this up too is because these groups and these people have made a profound impact on me. Through the contests and their encouragement and tutorage, I have been learning, honing my skills and making contacts. Not to mention the contacts I’ve been making while dealing with publishers and new authors. Then after meeting all these people who are amazing as creators and people, I get the pleasure and privilege of letting the rest of you know more about them.
In fact, I will soon be starting a blog that is dedicated solely to book reviews where you’ll be able to add your own comments and ratings as we sort through the millions of books that are published each year without ever touching a piece of paper. We’ll find the really great ones that tell a wonderful, entertaining story that will shine the light of Jesus for the world to see.

And if that’s not enough yet, my blog, Master's Peace Theatre that I started in 2013 when Mom died, but have basically been ignoring all these years, is about to get up and running too. But this time in the way it was originally created for. Not just another blog for me to rattle away on, but for creative Christian stories from many people from all over the world. All brought together with the common desire to share their talents in order to spread the Good News. And boy, is the world ripe for some Good News. And with that in mind, I am totally thrilled to announce that in the next couple of days I will be publishing to the Master's Peace Theatre blog not only a story from myself, but it’s first story from Guest Contributor, Leyla, K. C.

All this has been so obviously orchestrated by the Lord and is just the tip of the iceberg. I, myself know only a portion of what His bigger plans are. Yesterday, as I was planning what to write for this post and thinking about the course my life was taking, I had come to the conclusion that my role as a writer and creator would be relegated to discovering and promoting other people of great talent. But in only 24 hours, two books of mine that have been shelved for the past two years were resurrected by an email and surprise phone call from publishers. One publisher new to me and the other one that has been checking back with me for many years, just to see if I was “ready” yet. And we’re only one month into the new year. “Hang on” indeed.

Plus, I am weekly, almost daily coming into direct contact with exciting new authors who are so extremely talented it makes me gobsmacked. And I can’t wait to tell you all about them and interview them to introduce you to them personally. Plus, I’m also going to be doing a Bible teaching series on YouTube. And starting to write and develop songs. Or so the Lord tells me. I hope He at least gives me a chance to catch my breath every once in a while, because  all these plans He has are seriously cutting into my nap time. (Thankfully MONTY is here to pick up the slack in our napping home-quota.)

So if you want to keep track of all the Lord is doing around me right now, the best thing I can suggest is that you are watching my Twitter and Facebook profiles because whenever the Lord does something new to me or for me, I will make sure I tell you all about it there. (I’ll list the links you need below).

But Master's Peace Theatre is the place to watch in the next couple of days. With the story of my own going up today and then for the weekend I will be publishing our Guest Contributor, Christian writer, Leyla, K. C.

I know this post has been full to the brim with lots of information and stuff that’s coming, but I hope you will continue to visit me here on my personal blog too. Because there is one thing I have learned above all others in the past year. Delight.
Delight in the Lord. Delight in people. Delight in ourselves and the world God has given us. Joy has been so lacking in my life and now I understand why everyone thought Jesus’ disciples were all drunk on the morning of Pentecost."

He will show us the path to life and in His presence there is fullness of joy and pleasures for evermore at His right hand." That is the last thing my beautiful mother told me before she went to experience them first hand and in person. (Psalm 16:11)

So when you stop by for a visit, I will always be happy you came  and more than willing to tell you one of my best Knock-Knock jokes. As long as there is breath in me.

So I hope you hang on too and come along for this ride with me. And you never know. If you are willing and you invite Him to, He will give you your very own adventure. Anything is possible when an ordinary person gives themselves over to an ETRAordinary God.

Sincerely, Laura-Lee Rahn

The photo of the boat was part of one of the Creative Writing Groups but I decided to also draw a picture OF the picture using my beloved crayons.

Children's Book to Guide Through Terminal Illness

The Gift of Gerbert's FeathersThe Gift of Gerbert's Feathers by Meaghann Weaver
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I expected a quick children's book about a Goose named Gerbert but was surprised when the first pages referred to different Children's Psychology and Oncology agencies and the American Psychological Association. I had the, "What have I got myself into ", feeling?" (Probably the one you're having right now.)

We dive in immediately to the story of the birth of little Gerbert who is, in fact, a goose, as he emerges from his egg to the great celebration of his family. He's a little bit on the small side but full of spunk and energy. He plays, loves his family and learns Goose ways. Especially about migration. As a Canadian, I know quite a lot about it too. Every year, in the Autumn, I love to watch all the Geese fly south for the Winter to head for warmer weather. They fly in a V-shape because all that flying is hard work and they have the strongest Goose at the front to protect the weaker, smaller ones from the harsh, strong winds. Gerbert's Dad is at the front of their V during the first year Gerbert goes South with his family. Definitely a time for admiration and family pride. And Gerbert dreams of the day when he'll be big enough to be the Protector in the front, just like his Dad.

In fact, Gerbert's family is so close and loving that they have made up a little song just for themselves.

“In sun and rain and ice and snow,
feather to feather,
we’re always together.”

However, not long after Winter is over and Gerbert's family has returned to their Northern home they begin to notice some changes in Gerbert. He's lost his appetite, even for his favorite foods, he doesn't have the same strength to play and his feathers are starting to fall out. And when I saw the first illustration by Mikki Butterley of Gerbert laying sick in his nest is when my first tear fell.

People die and many of them are children. Through this short children's book, you will find the guidance and encouragement needed to guide your family and help them face the inevitable; the sickness and death of a child or any family member. It is simple but brilliantly written with a gentle, loving vibe through the whole thing and will help you find a way through the tragedies of a severe illness within a family.

Gerbert's story and his ceremony with the feathers he's been shedding (I won't give away any more than that), help us to face these tragedies and make the most of our time together as a family to strengthen and unite us. While the writers are always encouraging us not to avoid the questions and to revel in every second we have together to love each other.

Migrating away from a harsh Winter to a warm, sunny place where we meet with those we love who have gone before us is used as a metaphor for death and traveling to Heaven where, like Gerbert's Family's song says, "we are always together." It doesn't come right out and mention God and Heaven but sets it's story on Bible principles of Eternal Life, Resurrection, and Family, leaving the door wide open for you to insert all these things in if you wish to.

I conclude by saying that I hate that this book is necessary but so grateful it's available. I personally have been through a great deal of family grief (though I have not had a child die) and this book hits the mark not just for those who are children in age, but still children in our hearts. (All of us will have to say good-bye to our parents at some time). I've learned that to ignore and run from sickness and death while it's occurring is a regret that will linger and you do NOT need!

I received this book from Magination Press through Netgalley for free in exchange for an honest review and I'm so grateful I did because I found my own healing within its pages and Gerbert's story. I'm quite sure I'll never watch migrating Canada Geese quite the same way again.

Thank you for taking the time to read another one of my reviews.

Sincerely, Laura-Lee
