Christian Version of Aesop's Fable

The Man, the Boy, and the Donkey

A MAN and his son were once going with their Donkey to market. As they were walking along by its side a countryman passed them and said: “You fools, what is a Donkey for but to ride upon?”  1
So the Man put the Boy on the Donkey and they went on their way. But soon they passed a group of men, one of whom said: “See that lazy youngster, he lets his father walk while he rides.”  2
So the Man ordered his Boy to get off, and got on himself. But they hadn’t gone far when they passed two women, one of whom said to the other: “Shame on that lazy lout to let his poor little son trudge along.”  3
Well, the Man didn’t know what to do, but at last he took his Boy up before him on the Donkey. By this time they had come to the town, and the passers-by began to jeer and point at them. The Man stopped and asked what they were scoffing at. The men said: “Aren’t you ashamed of yourself for overloading that poor Donkey of yours—you and your hulking son?”  4
The Man and Boy got off and tried to think what to do. They thought and they thought, till at last they cut down a pole, tied the Donkey’s feet to it, and raised the pole and the Donkey to their shoulders. They went along amid the laughter of all who met them till they came to Market Bridge, when the Donkey, getting one of his feet loose, kicked out and caused the Boy to drop his end of the pole. In the struggle the Donkey fell over the bridge, and his fore-feet being tied together he was drowned.  5
“That will teach you,” said an old man who had followed them:
“PLEASE ALL, AND YOU WILL PLEASE NONE.

My Christian take on this fable is that I can't please everyone, so I try to please God first of all. What He thinks about me matters most and He judges my motives and has entrusted me with His good news to His people.
And speaking what's true is more important than making people happy and merely giving them warm fuzzies. Because it's only the Truth that can set men free. (And women too!)

Instead, we always speak as God wants us to, because he has judged us worthy to be entrusted with the Good News. We do not try to please people, but to please God, who tests our motives. (1 Thessalonians 2:4)

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.  John 14:6  NIV

John 8:31-32 ESV

31 So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

The Ray Comfort Rap

(NOTE: Read out loud to enhance experience)

Ray, Ray and mic hail from New Zealand
To bring Living Waters in hopes to make free men

Hanging with buddies Mark, Kirk and Ken,
Declaring the Commandments,  all of the Ten

Put on a 'shute when you jump from a plane
Like putting on Jesus in more than just name.

Be humbled by trials that may cause a sting
Like Ray played the Fool and "Banana Man" thing

Wherever you go, whatever you do
Speak from your heart all that is true

Opposition that's harsh is God's just refinement
Speak His Word, Cuz Love don't stay silent.

As Stephen did preach as the stones were hurled
We must take the Gospel into all the world

Even if Ray and his friends aren't your thing
You do need to hear the message they bring.

Look past the man to the way he paves
Because you need forgiveness and Jesus still saves
