I heard about a sewage worker who one day found an expensive diamond ring in raw sewage. It was so unique that the owner was able to be found and it was returned to her, much to her great joy because it was also a family heirloom.

There used to be a time when people could live out their lives able to avoid hardcore evil, but those days are past. Unless you live in a very tall, ivory tower or a very deep cave you are forced to see, hear and experience some things that are very horrible and often on a daily basis. I'm hearing words like "demonic", "devilish" and "evil" used much more frequently.
It taints us and we feel dirty at the end of a day. The kind of dirt that can't just be showered off because it's gotten into our hearts and minds.
But Jesus understands. He doesn't view us that way. To Him we are like that ring temporarily lost in the sewage. It might have been buried in muck but it never ceased for a second to be a beautiful ring.
It was found, cleaned and restored.
... and so will we be.

"Create in me a pure heart, O God,
and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Do not cast me from your presence
or take your Holy Spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of your salvation
and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me."
