The IMMIGRATION Issue (Simplified)

We're hearing a lot about Immigration right now and all of the problems it is creating in various countries. In an attempt to help you see past all the seemingly endless, opposite and convoluted reasoning, I'm going to boil it down to the basics.

🫕🫖🫕🫖🫕🫖🫕🫖🫕🫖

Let's suppose you owned a really nice house that you worked hard to get. Then one day you decided you wanted to make some new friends so you went out and bought a fabulous big screen and an awesome sound system with the goal of inviting a bunch of people over to watch some movies and sporting events.

Then you went out to pick up a bunch of drinks and food to stock up your fridge in anticipation for their arrival.

While you were out, you discovered that the rumors had spread throughout your neighborhood that you had gotten all this cool stuff. But you also discovered that several people in the surrounding towns also knew about your “tricked out” equipment.

When you got home you discovered that someone in your house had put out the “Welcome” Mat and propped open your front door. You rushed inside, checked that all your belongings were still there and closed and locked your door but you left the “Welcome” mat there because you really do want to invite people in.

(Don't forget to put all your groceries in your fridge before they spoil.)

Shortly after you have put away your groceries in your fridge (☝️in descending order according to the expiration dates) you hear a knock at your door. On your porch you see a man and a twelve year old boy that you don't know and ask,

“Who are you?”

The man responds, 😀🙋🏻

“Hi there. I'm your new neighbor Mitch and this is my son, Rufus. We saw you haul in all your cool, new equipment and we were wondering if you would let us have a look at it.”

Now, you might decide to take a risk and invite them in

OR

you might hesitate and respond with,

Uh. Now is not really a good time for me.” 😒

Now if Mitch (and Rufus) are REALLY good, decent people they will completely understand your hesitation and respond with something like,

No problem. Maybe another time when it's more convenient.”

They are going to allow you the time to discover more about them without being offended by it.

🤗🌿🤗🌿🤗🌿🤗🌿🤗🌿

Now let's take this to the bigger scale of Immigration.

You have a wonderful country, filled with great resources which the people from the neighboring countries know about.

Do you leave your door wide open

OR

Do you keep it closed and locked so you can take the time to properly identify who the new people are and discover more about them BEFORE you invite them in?

This is at the heart of this very intense and intricate debate over immigration. Try to keep this image in mind as people meander all over the place with their various arguments.

And also be aware that MANY people who are discussing this are very far removed from the consequences of what they are proposing and/or have hidden agendas they wish to push on others.

As a final piece of advice, I think you REALLY need to discover EXACTLY who left your door open so you can make them stop doing it.

I hope this helps to clarify the topic for you. 🫠

Will You Follow Jesus❓️

The King of Kings, the Son of God, Jesus came to earth to live amongst His people.

He spoke only Truth. He healed the sick. He cast out demons. He forgave people their sins. He welcomed children into his arms. He raised the dead.

And for the life he lived, he was granted great honor and glory amongst his people. 😊

Actually, it didn't turn out that way. 😞

The Religious Leaders hated him and conspired to kill him and the people, who for a time followed him, in the end turned into a bloodthirsty mob screaming for his death, which is exactly what they got.

The “King of Glory” was beaten, stripped naked, nailed to a cross and slowly died hanging between two criminals.

🥀🥀🥀🥀🥀

Now we live in a time when the whole world hates Jesus.

Jesus told us in the Bible,

“If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first.”

And

“‘They hated me without reason’”.

(John 15)

The question I asked in the title I am not asking of you, I am asking it of myself

Laura-Lee, will you follow Jesus

when He asks you to sell all you have and give to the poor?

when the only bed you have is a bed of straw?

when the only task he gives you is to wash the feet of those who betray you?

when you are hated by those you love because you have told them the Truth?

when you are so filled with fear you're sweating blood?

when your own people are calling for your death?

when the only crown this world will offer you is a crown of thorns?

(sigh) 😞 I don't know. My heart is so prone to selfishness and I tend to bail out when the going gets tough, but I WANT to be that kind of follower of Jesus.

Lord, give me strength when I am weak.   Help me to follow you even if no one else in the whole world does.   Make me act bravely even when I am terrified.   Give me the eyes of faith to see beyond the darkness of life around me and focus on the Life yet to come and, when you return, Jesus,  let me still be found faithful to you.”

Amen.

Love Always,

 Laura-Lee

Peter said to him, ‘We have left all we had to follow you!’

‘Truly I tell you,’ Jesus said to them, ‘no one who has left home or wife or brothers or sisters or parents or children for the sake of the kingdom of God  will fail to receive many times as much in this age, and in the age to come eternal life.’ ”

(Luke 18:28-30)

And what more shall I say? I do not have time to tell about Gideon, Barak, Samson and Jephthah, about David and Samuel and the prophets, who through faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, and gained what was promised;

who shut the mouths of lions, quenched the fury of the flames, and escaped the edge of the sword; whose weakness was turned to strength; and who became powerful in battle and routed foreign armies.

Women received back their dead, raised to life again.

There were others who were tortured, refusing to be released so that they might gain an even better resurrection.

Some faced jeers and flogging, and even chains and imprisonment.

They were put to death by stoning; they were sawed in two; they were killed by the sword. They went about in sheepskins and goatskins, destitute, persecuted and mistreated—

the world was not worthy of them.

They wandered in deserts and mountains, living in caves and in holes in the ground.

These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised, since God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect.”

  (Hebrews 11)

🌿❤️🌿❤️🌿❤️🌿❤️🌿

And wilt thou leave me thus,

That hath loved thee so long

In wealth and woe among?

And is thy heart so strong

As for to leave me thus?

Say nay, say nay!”

Prepping for Disaster " OLD SCHOOL"

I’m drawing on 50 years of experiences in EMERGENCY situations (and we have tons of those with our harsh Canadian weather 🇨🇦) to share with you.

These are  my top Survival tips anybody can do and we will be "Kicking it Old School”.

Let's get into it!

🔴 WATER

Fill jugs of water. You don't have to buy it. You can use tap water.

Clean out your bathtub. Rinse it thoroughly and fill it up again. This large amount of water can be very useful for washing, flushing toilets, etc. Add a little bit of bleach to it to keep it bacteria free.

🔴 GAS In Your Home

If a disaster is imminent TURN OFF the GAS in your home. If you sustain any damage to your home don't turn it back on again until the gas lines have been inspected by the authorities. This may take time and create hardships but is far superior to being poisoned by a gas leak or having your home blow up if somebody strikes a match.

🔴 LIGHT SOURCE

Vegetable Shortening (like Crisco) lasts MUCH longer than a regular candle.

Get out GLASS jars.

Slowly melt the shortening on your stove and pour into jars.

Place into the Fridge for a few minutes until it firms up a bit, then place a regular tapered candle into the center of it.

Make sure the oil is right up to where the wick begins but not over the wick.

(a birthday candle can be used for smaller jars)

🔴 FOOD

Concentrate on CANNED goods, jars of pickles and jams and things like DRY  CEREAL. (Remember, you need a MANUAL can opener.)

DON'T get things like Pasta, Rice or anything that needs to be boiled.  You may need to be rationing your water and/or you may not have the means to boil water and cook.

Packets of Baby Food is a good idea too. Full of nutrients for young and old.

Honey and Chocolate never expire and are good sources of quick energy.

To HEAT food during a power outage, turn a muffin pan upside down, place tea lights in between the cups and put pot on top. (Don't leave unattended and keep pets and small children away)

If you have access to an outdoor space, want to Cook but have a limited amount of fuel, put a Terracotta pot on a couple of bricks or cement blocks so that the hole in the bottom has access to oxygen.

Set a dorito or corn chip on fire (they are coated with oil) place in bottom, and put a few briquettes or broken branches on top of chip and cover with Barbecue grill or Cake cooling grill on top.

Put your pot on it or directly grill food on it.

It concentrates the heat.

🔴 PAPER PRODUCTS

If you don't have much time to prepare everybody else might head to the store and stockpile Toilet Tissue and Paper Towels so there might not be much available to you.

Get old bed sheets and towels and put them together in a big, plastic garbage bag to keep them clean and dry.

They can be invaluable when paper products run out. You can't flush them but a small piece of sheet dipped into water (from your full bathtub), then disposed of in a plastic garbage bag next to the toilet is a fabulous solution to the drip dry method.

Plus, they can be used as bandages too.

🔴 TOILET

Have a large bucket handy in case your toilet doesn't work. Your toilet can be “Flushed” by pouring water DIRECTLY into the bowl.

If your sewage is backed up, fill the bottom of the Bucket with a small amount of Bleach and water and have some kind of LID (even just a piece of cardboard) to place over it in case you need to use it as the Toilet.

🔴 TOOLS

Gather any tools you have and keep them handy, but store safely in a sturdy container or box.

Pliers, Flat head screwdriver, Sharp knife (wrapped in a piece of sturdy paper to prevent being cut when reaching for things).

Reliable Scissors

Sewing needles (various sizes and poked into a piece of cardboard so you don't lose them)

Sturdy thread

Rope and string.

Extra plastic containers with lids

Ziploc bags

Garbage bags

Duct Tape or Box Tape

🔴 STRUCTURAL SECURITY

Put your mattress under the Kitchen Table and surround with the chairs to sleep. This will protect you from falling or flying debris.

Stay away from windows and store away any objects that may fly around the room and cause an injury. (I place knick knacks into my dresser drawers amongst my clothing.)

Doorways are sturdy places and, once the storm has passed, keep  doors shut to enhance your home's structure.

If you are in an apartment building, Inner  Stairwells are a good place for protection.

Inside a Fireplace is a good place too. (if there isn't a fire in it at the time) 😉

🔴 FIRST AID

Put steady, even pressure on cuts.

Regular All Purpose Flour on a cut can help to stop the bleeding.

Immobilize sprains or any limb out of joint. The bed sheets can be good for this too.

Splint on a broken bone. Find two firm sticks, cut to appropriate length and tie them to either side of a limb to keep it stable.

TREATING TRAUMA

If someone has been through a physical or emotional trauma you need to give them something sweet. Fruit juice, coffee or tea with extra sugar or even a candy will help (if there is no danger they will choke on it).

It's a good idea in general to keep a Chocolate bar or some candy in your pockets during a crisis. This simple thing has saved MANY lives in the past.

Also you need to SLIGHTLY elevate their feet above the level of their chest to increase oxygen flow to their brains. The exception to this is if they have a wound on their head or torso.

Keep them warm because they will SUDDENLY get very cold and start to shake.

Here's a trick if you still have power. Put a bath towel in the dryer on high for a few minutes then cover them with it.

If you have no electricity but access to a fire heat a brick or stone then wrap it in a Sheet and put it near their feet.

🔴 IDENTIFICATION & SIGNALING

Take a SHARPIE and write your FULL name and contact info somewhere on your TORSO (like across your chest). If you are wounded and unconscious this could save your life.

Have a whistle around your neck (Just like Rose in Titanic). It can alert people to your whereabouts.

Compact mirror. This can be used to signal for help if somebody is searching for you.

Hang a Sheet outside your window or from your balcony to alert authorities you require Emergency aid.

These are a few of the basics I’ve come up with off the top of my head that others (primarily young people who are so used to technology) might not have thought of.

I’ll add more as I think about it more.

I’m praying for your safety.

The Truth with Love,

Always Laura-Lee
