Since it's Halloween and everyone is focusing on nasty, evil and ugly things, I thought I would nudge you to look at the other side of the coin.
The Bible encourages us to think about lovely things. I took this so much to heart that when I was going through a depressing time of life and having lots of bad dreams, each time I came across a lovely picture (even just in a magazine), I would cut it out or print it out and tape it next to my bed. That way just before I closed my eyes or first thing when I opened them I saw all these wonderful, beautiful things. One was an advertisement of a woman soaking in a big bathtub surrounded by bubbles and candles. It worked amazingly. I suppose it somehow focused my mind on positive things. Why don't you try it?
But for tonight I will get you started with lovely and romantic scenes from "The Sound of Music". I've watched them literally as long as I've been alive and they made me want to dance (sorry to my Baptist friends) and fall in love. There is a good chance these videos will stick a sappy grin on your face and even make you give a sigh. Don't say I didn't warn you and, by the way, Happy Halloween. Or " Holy Eve" as it was originally called.
Philippians 4:8 King James Version (KJV)
8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
1 John 4:18 New International Version (NIV)
18 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, ...
P.S. Even if you're dancing with someone handsome and his kiss makes you yell, " Weeeeeee!!",
Just make sure he's not a NAZI on the inside. Sound advice every parent should give to their daughter.
(This Laendler video is dedicated to my grade 10 high school class at Vancouver Christian Secondary School, in remembrance of the semester we took Folk Dancing instead of Gymnastics. For a bunch of little Christian teens we really rocked it. 37 years ago and you're still Forever Young to me.)
Below is Christopher Plummer singing the Austrian national anthem, Edelweiss, which I could strongly relate to coming from my own "blossom of snow" country. Canada. Only, Edelweiss wasn't the Austrian national anthem. That's Hollywood for you.
BTW. My favorite character is the Baroness. She has all the best lines in this movie. As you will see in this video clip. CLICK THIS VIDEO TWICE TO GO TO YouTube to view it.
MAY I ALSO SUGGEST YOU READ THE BOOK OF THE TRUE STORY. Quite different from the movie but wonderful in it's own way. LLR
